5 Uses for a CBD Salve

by Dave Marshall

June 24, 2020 - 3 min read

A basic body salve is made of a wax and oils. It has plenty of benefits, especially helping moisturize and soothe dry, irritated, or skin.

Depending on the type of oils used (e.g., CBD oil), a body salve may also have anti-inflammatory or analgesic properties that help make it effective in caring for cuts or scrapes and easing muscle or joint discomfort.

If you’ve been thinking of trying a CBD-infused salve, but weren’t sure what is useful for, here are 5 uses that may convince you to try one today!

Exercise Recovery

Massage a small dab into the affected or sore area to help ease any discomfort and recover from a workout, activities, or injury.

Tip: also use before working out to aid in recovery and reduce inflammation.

Sleep Aid

Massage into shoulders, neck, and temples 20-30 minutes before going to bed. Depending on the oils (e.g., lavender essential oil or CBD oil), the salve can ease muscle tension and help promote sleep as well as aromatherapy benefits that add even more relaxation.

TLC for Skin

A salve with oils such as eucalyptus or CBD will have anti-inflammatory properties. Rub onto an area affected by swelling, bruising, and scarring (but with no open wounds) from scrapes, cuts, bruises, bug bites, and more to help reduce these adverse effects.

Soothe Chest Colds

A body salve can help ease the symptoms of a chest cold with congestion. When you rub a generous portion onto the chest or neck, essential oils can help open the sinuses while CBD oil can help relieve tissue inflammation from deep coughing.

Relieve Migraine Headaches

Rub a small amount on the temples and back of the neck to help ease the discomfort of a migraine.

Pro tip: use as a “steam treatment” by applying to your temples and neck 20-30 minutes before a hot shower. The steam and heat from the water will help with penetration and absorption of the salve. It can also help relieve muscle pain anywhere as well as allergy symptoms.
